The Village of Lansing works with Homewood Disposal to provide refuse collection services.  The program improves efficiency by simplifying the collection of refuse, recycling and yard waste as well as dramatically improving the aesthetics of our streets and alleys. Each Lansing single-family residence has been provided with three (3) refuse toters.  These toters will take the place of your garbage cans, yard waste cans, and recycling bins. If you do not have alley access and will be receiving curbside pickup, place your toters within 4 feet of the curb and clear of surrounding obstructions. The end of the toter where the lid opens should face the curb and the handle should be facing away from the curb. Toters should be at least 2 feet apart from each other. If you have alley access, place toters alongside the alley and not on the side of a garage.  Residents with need for additional toters or other toter concerns should contact Homewood Disposal at (708) 798-1004.

As a reminder, Homewood Disposal does not pick up garbage on major holidays.  If your regular collection day falls on one of the below holidays, your garbage will be picked up the next day and all subsequent pickups that week will be delayed 1 day.  For example, during the week of Memorial Day, Monday pickups will be Tuesday, Tuesday pickups will be Wednesday, Wednesday pickups will be Thursday and so on.  Please keep this in mind before placing your garbage out during the week of the below holidays.

January 1, 2021 – New Years Day (observed)

May 31, 2021 – Memorial Day
All pickups will be delayed one day for this week only.

July 4, 2021 – Independence Day

September 6, 2021 – Labor Day
All service will be delayed one day for this week only.

November 25, 2021 – Thanksgiving Day
Monday-Wednesday service will be on schedule. Thursday and Friday service will be delayed one day for this week only.

December 25, 2021 – Christmas Day 

The following Holidays will not affect your weekly schedule:

January 18, 2021 – Martin Luther King Jr. Day
All service will be on schedule this week.

February 15, 2021 – Presidents Day
All service will be on schedule this week.

October 11, 2021 – Columbus Day
All service will be on schedule this week.

November 11, 2021 – Veterans Day
All service will be on schedule this week.


Your leaves will be picked up by Homewood Disposal Company with your yard waste in the provided toter from April 2nd through mid-December ONLY.  All leaves should be put in your toter with the GREEN lid or brown paper yard waste bags.  If you would like to rent additional toters for your leaves or yard waste, please contact Homewood Disposal at 708-798-1004.  Please note:  The Toter Program replaced vacuuming leaves at the curb.


If you have branches during the winter months (November through March), please call the Public Works Department and we will add your address to list for pickup.  On April 1st, the chipper will resume running the same route as the garbage trucks.  Thank you for your cooperation.

The Village of Lansing Public Works Department will continue to provide chipper service for our residents.  The chipper will pick up your large branches on the same day that your refuse is collected; however, your branches must be placed on your front parkway ONLY.  (Chipper service will no longer take place in alleys.)

Twigs may be placed in your yard waster toter. Small bundles of branches, no more than 4 feet in length may be put out next to your yard waste toter and Homewood Disposal will pick them up.


Call Public Works if you have items such as concrete, lumber, dirt, sod or stone to arrange for a special pickup. There may be a charge associated with this service. 


Tree trimming is the responsibility of the property owner.

If you are experiencing sewer problems (backup, odor, or slow running drains) call Public Works before you call a plumber and our crew will check the main sewer line.
